During all these years in which Mr. Lewis has beena resident of Preston, he has taken a deep interest inthe progress of the town, and in all public , he has always been a supporter of theDemocratic party, although for political preferment hehas never cared, and has consistently declined publicoffice. Mr. Lewis married, on November 4, 1865, Mary EllenIngraham, of Colchester, Connecticut, daughter of Jo-hial and Abby Ingraham, of that town. Two children. MR. and MRS. RHODES K. LEWIS BIOGRAPHICAL • 15 were born of this marriage: John R., who marriedAdah B. Richmond, of Norwich, on January 15, 1901,and Edwin E., a sketch of whom follows. Mrs. RhodesK. Lewis died in Preston, on October 31, 1919. Thefamily are members of the Baptist church of Preston. EDWIN EVERETT LEWIS, of Preston, NewLondon county, Connecticut, is a leader in that youngergroup of men who are significant factors in the prog-ress of the town. Coming of prominent Connecticutand Rhode Island families, and himself a prosperousbusiness man of the day, he represents one of theimportant interests of the town. He is a grandson ofCaleb and Patience Myra (Johnson) Lewis, and a sonof Rhodes King and Mary Ellen (Ingraham) Lewis,all of whom are of extended mention in the previoussketch. Edwin Everett Lewis, younger of the sons of RhodesKing and Mary Ellen (Ingraham) Lewis, was born atthe Lewis homestead, in the town of Preston
