The National Wallace Monument, also known as the Wallace Monument, is a tower on Abbey Craig, commemorates Sir William Wallace, a 13th-century Scottish hero. Wallace, whose fame and story was the subject of the motion picture 'Braveheart' was a Scottish knight who became was one of the main leaders during the First War of Scottish Independence. He was instrumental in defeating an English army at the Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297.
