The narrow cobblestone streets of Óbidos are closed to private automobiles and lined with small shops selling local food and handicrafts. The historic walled village has also been known as the Casa das Rainhas (Queen’s Estate) since it was first gifted by King Dinis to his wife Queen Isabel in the 13th century.
