In 1654 AbrahamRycken obtained a grant of land at the Poor Bowery,afterward adding to his domain the island known asRikers Island. His wife was a daughter of HendrickHarmensen, He died in 1689, leaving his farm by willto his son Abraham, who added considerably to the ex-tent of his lands, and at his death, in 1746, left the estateto his sons Abraham and Andrew. Abraham locatedupon that part of his fathers estate which included athird of the Tuder patent. The tenement which heerected still remains, and forms the center room of thehouse now owned by the heirs of Charles Rapelye, de-ceased. Mr. Riker took an active part in the erection ofthe first Dutch church built at Newtown, and was one ofthe trustees to whom the deed for the church lot wasexecuted; and at the time of his death, February 20th.
