Moorish Ice House in winter, near ruins of L'Atzuvieta, Vall d'Alcala, Marina Alta, Alicante Province, Spain

This ice house was built by the Moors. Snow was packed in to it in the winter and the resulting ice was cut into blocks and used to keep food cool and fresh in the warm months. This one, near the Moorish village of L'Atzuvieta, is quite well preserved as it still has its domed roof.
