Robocup 2003. Robot goalkeeper in goal in the 2003 Robocup competition. The Robocup is an annual event in which teams of autonomous robots play football against each other. This requires a high level of artificial intelligence: the robots should be able to recognise a ball, move towards it and propel it towards a goal. The aim of the competition is to develop a team of humanoid robots that can beat the best human side in the world by the year 2050. The cup has several leagues, including divisions for four-legged robots (such as the one seen here) as well as humanoid (bipedal) robots. The 2003 event, the seventh Robocup, was held in Padua, Italy.
