The ABC of bee culture: a cyclopaedia of every thing pertaining to the care of the honey-bee; bees, honey, hives, implements, honey-plants, etc., facts gleaned from the experience of thousands of bee keepers all over our land, and afterward verified by practical work in our own apiary . w bee-keepers remove it and leave on an enamelcloth or quilt. If the cloth or quilt is sealeddown tight, it will answer, pe haps, a-* for reasons presently to be given, Iwould leave the cover on. Weil, along WINTERING. aou WINTERING. about the i5th of November, in() locality, iwe put our bees into the cellar, the time be-ing varied, of cour^e, according to the pe-Ciliarity of the season. Whenever it turnscold and begins to snow, and the propectsseem pretty good for a continuance, weopen up our cellar and proceed to carrythem in.^^o Before doing so, however, with ascrewdriver or cold-chisel we go around toeach hive, puff a little smoke in at the en-trance, and pry the body loose from the bot-tom-board, as it will always be stuck downwith ^ It may yield with a littlesnap, and it will be necessary tu use a littlesmoke to make the bees behave. The bot-tom-bi-ards all loosened, with an assistantand a couple of hive-carriers we proceed tocarry the bees into the MANNER or CARRYING BEES INTO THECELLAR WITH HIVE-CARRIERS. It is to be observed that our hive-carriersare simply a couple of lengths of wire bentin the shape of a letter V, an ordinarywooden-pail handle being slipped throughto the middle of the wire. Both ends arebent down in the shape shown in the cut inthe enlarged view. The ends are then bentin the form of a hook, and sliarpened so asto catch on the bottom-board.
