Thurrock type potin

Obverse of Thurrock type potin or cast bronze coin, found with a metal detector near Canterbury. Small change of the time amongst Celtic tribes such as the Cantii, it was most likely minted in Kent during the first century BC. The coin is a rough imitation of Greek issues and the portrait that of Apollo. The term 'potin', now out of favour in numismatic circles, denotes a coin made with bronze of a higher than usual tin content.
