. The street railway review . , of Milwau-kee, which has good reason to feel proud of the immedi-ate success of this, its first effort. The trolley in ques-tion discards the use of graphite bushings or roller bear-ings, and employs instead, cone bearings, which auto-matically adjust themselves to compensate for any smallwear. The detail parts are shown in the engravings. Everypart is steel. Brass wheels will be furnished, if insisted. on, but their use is not recommended, as they wear outmuch faster than steel. As seen in the cross section ofthe trolley, the cone bearings are kept tight automaticallyby the spiral spring which presses outward on the armswhich hold the cone points. This is an important fea-ture, as it prevents rattle and keeps a good electrical con-tact, while, at the same time, there is a slight play of thewheel under severe strains. The cones and the wheelbushings against which they bear are of hardened steel. To adjust the bearings for the wear which takes place inthe course of a long time, the cone points can be screwedin or out with a screw driver, and the adjustment is keptby the split pin as shown. In case the cones break, thereis still a shoulder to prevent the wheel from falling out,and to act as a bearing until it can be conveniently the wheel is a hollow space for dope. This isapplied every few nights by removing one of the conesand inserting the nozzle of a specially made dop
