C. Holmes, of Arawata (then livingnear the Bass Bridge, Poowong). for the weeklydelivery of their mails from Poowong. This dutyAvas usually performed by one of Mi. TTolniesssons on a Simday. Mr. Elliott was the furthestpoint south to which the delivery was made, andas Mr. Elliott kept open house to his friends fur-ther south, his place became a popular Sunday after-noon lesort. Here the comparatively ohl ivsidentsand the new arrivals met and discussed their ]Ue-vious Aveeks work and their future prospects. Here,also, were projected public schemes, many of wliichwere afterwards realised, and all had the enthusiastic sui)port
