Another serious fault with the breathing of many persons isthat they breathe through the mouth instead of the nose. This is productive of muchtrouble which it is not necessary to discuss here. Show me a person who breathes welland I will show you one who is in quite nearly, if not in absolute, health. Position in Breathing. To breathe well, the body should be free from restraint from tight clothing, the shoulders thrownslightly back and the body straight. Commence by breathing a little more air than you ordinarily take. into the lungs at a time. Increase the amount inhaled from time to time until you are able to take a fullbreath. Abdominal Breathing. That is filling the lungs so as to expand the lower part of the abdomen as well as the chest, is muchneglected. The circulation in and through the pelvic functions is much retarded by this neglect, whichlays the foundation for numerous diseases of the sexual organs and much female weakness. Take Long Inhalations as frequently as possible and practice holding the air in the lungs long enough to count five pulsations ofthe heart. Then breathe out slowly, not suddenly, until the lungs are entirely empty. Otherwise the airremaining in the lungs continues to poison the system by reason of its impurity. Tension. The best results may be had by putting some muscular tension on the body, if even but slight,while holding the breath. Packing the Lungs.
