Curdimurka Terminal siding on the Old Ghan Railway near Lake Eyre in outback South Australia.

Curdimurka Terminal siding on the Old Ghan Railway near Lake Eyre in outback South Australia. This abandoned railway siding on the old Ghan Railway Line next to the Oodnadatta Track is 104km west of Marree. For many years this siding had been home to the many fettlers who looked after the railway line between Marree and William Creek. It is the most impressive siding along the old Ghan railway line as it’s the only one that’s still in one piece. There is a never-ending line of scattered remains of both telegraph and track. Many people spend hours wandering along the remains attempting to find pieces of undamaged insulators. It is permissible to collect the sleepers from the Ghan for use as firewood. Heaps of track remains, mostly sleepers scattered in piles amongst scrub and dust but there has been some attempt at restoration at a few of the sidings. Curdimurka is pleasingly restored but the rest have been left to ruin and vandalism by unthoughtful tourists.
