Ultrasound scans of a foetus at 12 weeks. The foetus develops from the embryo, with the dividing line at around nine weeks. By week 12 (just under a third of the way through the pregnancy) the foetus measures a few centimetres in length. During the twelfth week of development, the brain significantly increases in mass and becomes structurally developed. Other major organs have also developed.
