The Westinghouse multiple train control system was de-scribed in these columns two years ago, but a number ofchanges have been made in it, so that the present system is dif-ferent than that previously described. As will be rememberedthe Westinghouse system involves the use of compressedair for moving the current-controlling apparatus, electro-magnetic valves governing the admission of air to the con-trolling cylinders and low-voltageelectric circuits running from carto car for controlling the action ofthe magnet valves. The connec-tions for the low-voltage circuitsare the. only ones which have to RELEASE MAGNET,OPERATING MAGNET. the motorman to control the action of the controllers on all ofthe motor cars in the train, the motormans position being, ofcourse, on the front of the leading car. The accompanying illustrations show some of the details ofthe system. As installed on the Brooklyn cars the car con-troller is placed in a closet immediately adjoining the motor-mans cab at one end of the car, where all parts are readilyaccessil)le, as seen from the view given. The entire inside ofthis closet is thoroughly fire-proofed. At the top of the closet, above the main controller, is an electromagnetic pneumaticcircuit breaker, a separate illustration of which is also circuit breakers on all the cars are thus directly under thecontrol of the motorman, and can be opened or closed by himas well as serving as a safety device on overloads. The mannernf moving the controlling cylinders is well shown in the topview of the controller, where the functions ofthe various parts are indicated. The squaredtop of the cy
