The box is filled with oil, which not only keeps the working parts lubricated but alsoserves to extinguish the arc caused by the breaking of thecircuit. A tightly fitting cover prevents leakage of filled with oil the governor weighs but 12 lbs. The device is rightfully named a pneumatic governor, asthe only electrical features about it are the two terminalsand the switch-arm which makes the connection between STREET RAILWAY 586 STREET RAILWAY JOURNAL. The governor has been inpractical operation on cars for more than a year. AN INCANDESCENT LAMP FOR RAILWAY USE The Franklin Electric Manufacturing Company, of Hart-ford, Conn., has recently put on the market a new lamp de-signed especially for street railway and other work wherethere is much vibration. In this lamp the filament is an-chored at its lowest pointand is supported directlyfrom the stem. As will benoted from the accompany-ing illustration, this is ac-complished by a small glasscolumn extending from thestem past the upper por-tions of the filament filament is securelyfastened to an anchor wirewelded in said glass col-umn, and the greatest pos-sible rigidity of filamentsupport is thus obtained. Through this improvedmethod of construction thestreet railway type sustainsvibrat
