Common black hawk (Buteogallus anthracinus) grabs a fish, Pixaim River, Pantanal, Brazil
The Pantanal wetlands in Brazil are the world's largest tropical wetlands and it is a vast area rich in environmental biodiversity, harboring many endangered and threatened species. The Pantanal ecosystem is reported to be home to over 300 mammalian species, 400 fish species, 480 reptile species, 1000 bird species, and over 9000 different subspecies of invertebrates. Birds of prey such as this Common black hawk (Buteogallus anthracinus) can be seen swooping down from the tall tree along the river bank to fish. They are VERY fast and require a good motor drive, lots of buffer, and speeds of 1/2000 to 1/2500 to catch the action.
