Views from the window inside the Strawberry train that goes from Madrid Delicias train station to Aranjuez city Madrid, Spain. The strawberry train is the commercial name given to a Spanish tourist train that runs between Madrid and Aranjuez, in memory of the Madrid-Aranjuez railway, the second railway line built on the Iberian Peninsula and opened to traffic in 1851. This The railway line was the primitive route that linked the cities of Madrid and Aranjuez, being the second railway built in the Iberian Peninsula. In the 1980s, it was proposed to establish a special service that would recover this old route for tourist purposes. The first "Strawberry Train" made its maiden voyage on May 27, 1984, starting from the Atocha station to the Aranjuez station. For the occasion, a "Mikado" type steam locomotive was used. The Strawberry Train between Madrid and Aranjuez offers services on Saturdays and Sundays during the spring and autumn months. The nineteenth-century journey is recreated with a historical composition with wagons (technically called "passenger cars") made of wood, with hostesses dressed in period costumes that serve typical products from Aranjuez. The ticket price includes the train trip from the Delicias station (home of the Railway Museum) to Aranjuez, a visit to the city, the Royal Palace and the Falúas Museum, with all travel included. Since the Strawberry Train was launched, the convoys are usually towed by steam locomotives, although on occasions historic diesel or electric locomotives also intervene. For example, in 2016 the train was powered by a historic electric locomotive and to the four wooden coast cars was added a 5000 metallic car from the 1950s.
