Public artwork entitled Wind Seat in memory of the murdered child Laura Kane at Herrington Country park, Sunderland, NE England

The group of artists Strata were commissioned to produce a series of works for Herrington Country Park in Sunderland. This seat, with a background view of Penshaw Monument, is called Wind Seat. It also serves as a memorial to the murdered 9 year old Penshaw girl Laura Kane who was killed in 1999. Once the site of Herrington Colliery with a large pit heap or spoil tip, the area has been transformed and is now one of the largest open air recreational spaces within Sunderland. It attracts numerous visitors with its safe cycling and walking paths, lakes and a café. It is the venue for various sporting and cultural events throughout the year.
