Four-spot orb-weaver spiders. Close-up of a male and female four-spot orb-weaver (Araneus quadratus) on their web. Females grow to between 9 and 22 millimetres in length, whereas the male usually measures around 8 millimetres. A. quadratus lives in low vegetation where it builds webs of up to 40 centimetres in diameter. This spider is widespread and common throughout Europe. Photographed in the UK.
