Double-decker recreation of 1920s Hong Kong ferries, the Shining Star, carries passengers on a licensed harbour tour in Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong, China, in December 2006.

Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong, China: the Shining Star, built in 1964 as a double-decker recreation of the Hong Kong ferries of the 1920s. She is owned by the Star Ferry Company and is now used for the Star Ferry Harbour Tour. This image was shot in December 2006. The Star Ferry Company traces its origins to 1880 when Dorabjee Naorojee Mithaiwala, a Parsee cook, began a ferry service across Victoria Harbour with his steamboat, the Morning Star. The fledgling service was known as the Kowloon Ferry company. In May 1898, the Star Ferry Company, as it is known today, became a public company. In 2003, Star Ferry launched the only licensed harbour tour in Hong Kong. Today, the company operates the harbour tour in addition to ferry crossings between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon.
