An Italian or French circular etched shield, circa 1600 Lightly cambered shield with embossed ribs radiating from the centre and a strong, turned and roped edge. A large rosette riveted onto the centre with a helically fluted spike. Studded with brass lining rivets and four iron rivets with decoratively etched washers for attaching the shield grip. The entire outside surface is etched with decorative scroll and vine work. Remnants of the leather grip loops on the back.
