A train is battered by waves as it passes through the Dawlish train station, Devon. 23/12/2013 The Met Office issued a severe weather warning with high winds of up to 80mph and localised flooding in pockets of the UK, just as people travel for the Christmas break. Network Rail has warned of disruption to services that could see trains delayed, or cancelled and companies running amended timetables. Many operators removed limits on day tickets in an effort to dissuade customers from travelling at the height of the weather problems, when 50mph speed restrictions are likely to be in place on train services.
