Moon's surface. The lunar hemisphere that faces Earth has bright highlands and dark seas, or maria, which are lowland plains full of dark solidified lava. Also present are impact craters. At upper right is the deep Copernicus crater, with the smaller Kepler crater to its lower left. To the left of Copernicus is the Oceanus Procellarum and below it is the Mare Nubium.
