Short Biographies. 769 Upon his return to Brooklyn he engaged in civil pursuits, andbecame superintendent of the Boston Steam Carpet Beating Com-pany. In February, 1871, he was appointed a policeman, andassigned to duty in the Tenth Precinct. The rare qualities displayedby him in ferreting out criminals soon brought him prominentlybefore the notice of the heads of the Police Department, and in 1875he was detailed to duty as a detective at the Central Office. Duringhis connection with the department in that capacity, he has proved. Patrick Dunn. to be a capable officer, whose services are greatly valued. is happily married, and is the father of six boys, four ofwhom are members of the Veterans Sons Association of Brooklyn. Alexander DuFlon, well and popularly known, was born inBrooklyn, July 18, 1819, on the site of where the present CourtHouse now stands. Like every other lad of that period, he earlyran with the machine, and at nineteen years of age became a regularmember of American Engine Company No. 9. This occurred in1838, the engine at that time being housed in High Street.
