Hewas the son of William and Martha(Button) West. His grandfatherwas Samuel West, his great grand-father, William West; his greatgreat grandfather, John West,called by the descendants, the emi-grant, who came from England in1715; the wife of John was SarahPearson, and one of their sons wasBenjamin West, the celebratedpainter, he being a younger brotherof William West, who was thegreat grandfather of the presentWilliam Pusey West. The housein which Comrade W^est was bornwas built in 1696, and it and theadjoining farm were purchased byWilliam West (his great grandfather), and it remained in pos-session of the family until a few years ago.
