Hereford Cathedral stands on a green in the heart of the county town and only city of Herefordshire. It is a magnificent Romanesque Norman cathedral within a Gothic shell, dating from 1079 heading the Diocese of Hereford and the seat and base for the Bishop of Hereford. The most famous treasure in the cathedral is the Mappa Mundi, a mediæval map of the world dating from the 13th century. The cathedral is a Grade I listed building.
