The business was converted into a limited company a few years ago, when Mr. Cross was appointed a director, and continued as manager of the Liverpool mills. Few men have acquired so thorough a knowledge of the timber trade as Mr. Cross possessed. He was a competent judge of all kinds of timber, native and foreign, understood all processes of manufacture and was a good buyer and a clever salesman. Mr. Cross visited Canada, the United States and the West Indies on business for his firm. He enjoyed the friendship and esteem of a large circle of friends both in society and business, and his demise is deeply regretted. Mr. F. Billingsluy. The late Frederick Billingsley, of' Quebec, was well known in lumber circles throughout the greater part of Eastern Canada as well as in Great Britain. Born in. The Late Mr. F. Billingslev 1841, he entered the ofHce of Messrs. H. & E. Bur- stall at the age of thirteen, and died a partner in J, Burstall & Company at the age of 63—an unsevered connection of over fifty years. An astute, earnest business man, he was as much esteemed in commercial circles as in his private life. He was at the time of his death a director of the Quebec Bank,. President of the Quebec Warehouse Company and a Past-President of the St. George's Society. The large attendance at his funeral, irrespective of race and creed, was a testimonial to his worth. Mr. A.
