Genomics. Conceptual computer artwork of an anatomical model of the human face with a DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) helix (across bottom) and three molecular models (upper right). This may represent genomics, the process of determining the sequences of genes in the human genome (the information that controls and transmits an organism's hereditary characters). The sequence of DNA's nucleotide bases (G, C, A, T), arranged in discrete segments known as genes, determines the genetic code. Each gene encodes instructions for the construction of molecules like proteins. Sequencing the genome allows identification of the genes responsible for genetic diseases.
