Traffic stop, Using a License Plate Reader, LPR, the Troopers can get instant information about the vehicle stopped State Police


Mounted on the trunk of the police vehicle is an Automated License Plate Reader. This piece of technology makes it possible for the officers to check a very large number of license plates in a short amount of time. Read license plates are compared against a national database instantly. The national database covers things such as stolen vehicles, stolen plates, vehicle owner reported missing, vehicle owner with outstanding felony warrants etc. The LPR makes it possible for the troopers to drive down a street, highway or even the Interstate and check license plates in realtime as vehicles pass or are passed. Each unit costs roughly $20,000. Nebraska State Patrol.
