Heckman was directed by a friend to thetract of fine, wboded land, a natural forest,which he afterward purchased, and upon a boldbluff of which, commanding a sweeping view ofa wide and magnificent stretch of river andregion, he built a home to live in when thevoice of the country calls the dweller of thecity thence. The house constructed for this first summerhome was built of Naperville cut-stone. A goodquality of stone for other purposes, however, is. MR. ANIt MRS. ISAAC A. Though not in themind of the owner at the time of purchase, thetract forms an ideal place for an ridge included within its boundaries is thefamous Eagles Nest Bluff, holding near itscrest above the steep river-side, the craggyrocks where is the gnarled and aged group ofcedars, once the home of the eagle. In the tract,too, is contained the spring which bears the nameof the beauteous youth who was cup-bearer tothe Great Jove, King of the Gods, according tothe classic myths of the Greeks and Romans—once a part of theii religious belief. It includes,too, the island named for the gifted writer, oftragic fate, whose name and fame are indis-solubly linked with nest, bluff and spring. It isespecially fitting that the region, so early asso-ciated with literary genius, should become thelater home of artists and
