UNITED STATES - Oct. 18, 2019: VDHR staff came to Loudoun county for a rural road tour. Here (center) Jane Covington of America's Routes and (left) Blake McDonald, Manager of Architectural Survey & Cost Share Grant Program Survey & Register Division and (right) Aubrey Von Lindern, CLG Coordinator & Architectural Historian, Northern Region Preservation Office Community Services Division go tour the historic roads of South Western Loudoun. Specifically, the staff was interested in the road network’s ‘integrity’ - does the road network convey the association, design, feeling, location, materials, setting and workmanship of the road network from its period of significance, which dates from 1757 with creation of Loudoun County to 1964 with the construction of Dulles Airport and the County’s transition from agricultural to suburban tour with VDHR staff focused on Southwest Loudoun - the area bounded by Snickersville Turnpike and Route 50.
