Canoeing at Vang Vieng on the Nam Song River

Vang Vieng town in central Laos was made famous as a base from which the United States operated Air America to disrupt the Vietcong transport route through Laos on the Ho Chi Min Trail during the American Vietnamese War, known as the Secret War in which 200,000 Laos people died. In the 1970's Vang Vieng became part of the hippy trail through southeast Asia where a hedonistic lifestyle prevailed. Canoeing at Vang Vieng on the Nam song River
