A tourist holds and shows the "sand" present in "popcorn beach" which are dead rhodoliths, a type of red corraline algae that turns white when the algae dies due to the calcite present. Mejillon Beach, also known as "popcorn beach" is located north of Fuerteventura Island in the Canary Islands, and it has become famous for its rare and unique "sand".
