Leicester Square, London, United Kingdom. Architect: Burns + Nice, 2012. Ribbon seating and lighting.

Leicester Square is a significant London destination. On a regular weekend it is visited by as many as 500,000 people. It is the landmark and home of British cinema and is the venue for more than 50 film premieres per year. It also hosts a number of special events each year. About 250 deliveries take place each day to the large number of restaurants and eateries located around the square and its side streets. These factors influenced BURNS + NICE's design response which provides maximum flexibility and robustness for the square, whilst creating a sense of place in keeping with Leicester Square's international reputation. By creating a coherent city block that links with Piccadilly to the west, Trafalgar Square to the south, Covent Garden to the east and Chinatown to the north, the design also re-establishes Leicester Square within London.
