Signpost marker for the ROAM 639 trail at the Devils Punchbowl in the Surrey Hills

The trail name ROAM 639 is derived from the initials of Richard Overall, a local young man who died from muscular dystrophy and the shared initials of my friends two sons, Alfie and Arthur Marchant, whose lives are also affected by this condition. The number 639 represents the number of muscles that comprise the human body and also indicates the distance of the loop (, ). The creation of the loop has been made possible thanks to the support of the National Trust, Nicholas Overall (Richard’s father) who set up the Richard Overall Trust in his son’s honour and Action Duchenne, the muscular dystrophy charity most closely aligned to the form of muscular dystrophy that Alfie & Arthur have.
