The Baobab,a deciduous tree declared protected under the Forest Act in South Africa in 1941, live to be thousands of years old

The baobab is the largest succulent plant in the world. The branches resemble a root system so it is sometimes referred to as the upside down tree. Carbon dating techniques and examination of core samples suggests that a tree with a diameter of 10m may be as old as 2000 years.
