His wounds were cared forand he was told that his people were safe; he was taken in one of the armywagons as far as the Mud Geyser, then sent on toward home to Bottlers Ranch,twenty-five miles north, and thence to Bozeman, where Mrs. Cowan joinedhim. Mrs. Cowan and her sister and brother received no ill treatment fromthe Indians, were released at the Yellowstone River and made their way toBottlers Ranch also, but left again forhome before Cowan came, andwithout knowing even thathe was alive.
