View N of the passage & burial chamber of Bargrennan (White Cairn) chambered tomb, Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland, UK: two capstones remain in place.

View N of the undifferentiated passage & burial chamber of Bargrennan (White Cairn) chambered tomb, Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland, UK. Two capstones remain in place over the N end of the chamber. The much robbed round cairn is across & up to high at the centre. It was excavated in 1949 & again in 2004-5. A clay-lined ritual fire pit immediately SSE (R) of the entrance was filled with black soil, oak charcoal & cremated bones. Potsherd & cremated bones were found on the paving of the passage. A cist containing a Cordoned Urn & cremated bone was uncovered SW of the passage, & an urn in a pit E of the passage. Kerbstones marking the original perimeter of the cairn were also discovered, they had been pushed outwards & then covered by the collapsing cairn stones.
