Ancient Egyptian clay anthapoid coffin, 1550–1500 BC, 18th Dynasty, Aniba (Nubia), tomb S 32. Kunsthistorisches Muesum Vienna inv AS 7996. The mummy was inserted through the oval opening into this tube-like case that is wider towards the top. Face, arms, and breasts are modelled on the lid. Such coffins are documented beginning in the New Kingdom, especially for modest burials outside Egypt.
