STJPPLT IN EXCESS OF DEMANIh The business the past week has been. to use the expression of one of the retailers, very "; There is gen- erally a lull at this time, and this year has been no exception, the dull week ending with the first few days in De- cember, seeming, if anything, to be even worse than the record. There are quantities of flowers in all lines, roses particularly being away ahead of the demand. Carnations are almost at their best and some particularly fine Georgeous are seen; in fact, all varie- ties grade high. Some of the things that can be held on the plants like snapdragons are a bit scarce, but they had better be sent in to get a fair price now rather than held to meet a large competition later on from similar grow- ers. The chrysanthemum has ceased to be a factor; there are a few late varieties, but nearly all have been cut out. Easter lilies and valley are plen- tiful; in fact, there are at least 50 per cent too many flowers for the business doing. Violets appear to be the only exception, the supply being under the normal. The stores are taking advan- tage of the lull to get things in readi- ness
