The route by which the Grand Trunk Pacific Railwaytraverses the Rocky Mountains opens up, westward of theAthabaska Pass, a vast alpine region of unrivalled magni-. District between the Athabaska and Yellowhead Passes. licence. The district is known as the Jasper Forest Park; itrovers an area of no less than 5,000 square miles, and willremain for all time a national reserve. The Athabaska Pass, distinct channels like a fan, cutting up the valley into littleislands around which the waters course past the base ofMiette. In the opposite direction, as far as the range of visionextends, the same river can be discerned threading its coursebetween Roche Jacques and Roche Suette into Jasper LakeAway in the south Mount Dalhousie rears its head above theclouds, and from its territory the Rocky River comes foamingdown the valley between the Fiddle Hack and the Colin ranges,in a remarkably straight but tempestuous , to join theAthabaska just as it delivers its burden of water to Jaspi directly opposite, the Snaring River dashes down overthe base of lofty Suette to the confluence.
