The history of St. Pauls EpiscopalChurch is one of particular interest. Itdates from a very early period, and it hasassociations with many men of local andeven national fame. In the annals ofEpisoopalianism in Aberdeen, St. Paulshas from the first held a position whichis in many ways unique, and it stilloccupies such a position to-day. The earliest document in connectionwith the church records the fact that AtAberdeen this 2nd day of August, 1720years, there met together certain burghers, merchants, tradesmen, and in-habitants of Aberdeen for settling aneEpiscopal Meeting House by a qualifiedminister in the terms of law. The 6itechosen was on the west side of the Gallow-gate, and there in 1721 they built a chapel,which was described in the deed of con-veyance as being for the use of theEpiscopal congregation of the burgh ofAberdeen.
