A shed skin of a 17-year periodical cicada (Magicicada septendecim) remains attached a twig after the cicada emerged.


Brood II 17-year periodical cicadas emerged in mass from their 17 year underground nymphal stage to breed in the spring of 2013 after last being seen in 1996.
