The result of this movement was the starting of the South BendWeekly Tribune, the first issue of which appeared March 9, 1872, with Alf name at the head as editor. Great public interest was manifested in thisenterprise and the venture was a success from the start. In less than a year thepaper had a subscription list of over three thousand, and its influence was felt farand near. Mr. Millers ability as a writer and newspaper manager was shown inevery department of the paper. ? In May following the establishment of the paper, atthe earnest solicitation of Mr. Colfax and other leading citizens, the Smith BendDaily Tribune was established, which afforded Mr. Miller another opportunity todevelop his journalistic talents.
