Tall pink flowering plant in our back yard during Spring and early Summer.


Height up to 6 feet, many small clustered dark pink flowers with opposite oval shaped leaves that can reach 12 inches in length. The plant releases a strong musky odor. Quickly able to escape cultivation from landscapes. Sightings have been made in the Lower Galveston Bay watershed. And it is also reported to inhabit all of the Gulf Coast states, Georgia, Florida and South Carolina. Can occur along roadsides, as well as in forests. Prefers damp shady locations. Displaces native plant species. Spreads aggressively by root suckering. Bloom time ranges from summer to fall. It is a deciduous shrub that grows in an upright fashion with minimally branched shoots.
