Deuterium. Atomic model of deuterium, also known as heavy hydrogen, an isotope of hydrogen. Isotopes are forms of an element that contain different numbers of neutrons in the atomic nucleus (centre). Deuterium has one neutron (white) and one proton (pink) in its nucleus, whereas hydrogen has no neutrons. The atom also has one electron (blue) orbiting the nucleus.
