Alex Cherney (born 1975), Australian amateur astronomer. Cherney spent six nights over an 18 month period photographing the night sky from a remote peninsula in Victoria, Australia. He chose nights with a new or crescent moon, to limit light interference. A two and a half minute time-lapse video of the southern Milky Way made from these photographs won Cherney the prestigious STARMUS astro-photography competition in 2011.
