5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (March 21, 2017) Boatswain’s Mate Seaman Jessica Stewart, from Norman, Okla., helps haul in a mooring line on the fantail of USS Makin Island (LHD 8) as the amphibious assault ship gets underway after a port visit in Jebel Ali, United Arab Emirates. Makin Island is deployed in the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of maritime security operations designed to reassure allies and partners, and preserve the freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce in the region.
