A Vickers deck gun salvaged from the wreck of HMS Hampshire, now displayed at Marwick Head, Orkney, near where the ship sank. Details in Description.


The gun was salvaged from the wreck of the armoured cruiser HMS Hampshire which sank during the First World War on 5 June 1916. It had been carrying Lord Kitchener on a diplomatic mission to Russia when it hit a German mine west of Marwick Head on Mainland, Orkney. There were only 12 survivors and 737 died including Lord Kitchener who went down on the ship.
