The constant improvement in machinery, the di-vision, subdivision, and specialization of labor, thewonderful development in industry, and the concen-tration of wealth, give to the wealth possessors suchextraordinary power, which, when coupled with thecunning and greed for gain, unless intelligently andcomprehensively met by a well organized labor move-ment, will tend to the deterioration of our race, thedestruction of all our achievements,, and the dissipa-tion of all our SAMUEL GOMPERS,President American Federation of Labor. On the other hand, if we are faithful to the his-tory and traditions of the struggling masses in thepast, if we shall prove true to the interests and thewelfare of the hosts of labor of our day, the powercalculated to injure will be diverted to the commonweal, and thus open up vistas of larger opportunitiesand a broader conception of human rights and en-nobling aspirations.
